In our daily life, you can find an interesting phenomenon. If you scan your apps on your mobile phone, you can find most interface designs use blue, such as DingDing, TIM, Youdao note, Linkedin, Zhifubao, App store,  Zhihu, Skype, Facebook. Why they use blue?

Blue is one of the three primary colours of pigments in painting and traditional colour theory, as well as in the RGB colour model. Blue can build connection with pure water, sunny sky or other nature scenery in people’s mind. As a result, blue is people’s favourite colour.

From the point of UI designer’s view, blue is absolutely a very useful colour. Red, orange and green are usually meaningful, such as errors, warning and completion. In contrast, blue becomes a better choice.

Blue is defaultly seen as having a sense of technology and creativity.

In travel website, blue is frequently applied. Because it can bring people a sense of safety, which is a good thing for travel agency. Another example is health care industry. Many hostical and health institutions use blue.

In most occasions, persuading customer use our product is critical important for us. Blue can present a sense of reliable. Technology companies like Dell, IBM, Intel, AT&T and Zhifubao use blue to pass credit information, because people use their product every day and do payment.

Many patients with color weak can see blue, which makes blue is prior to other colors like green and red.

From the reasons list, you can understand that blue is very popular in interface design, while this doesn’t mean you have to change your work to blue. The best color choice is based on your target user’s preference. For example, I found some ecommerce app like Dazhongdianping, Taobao, and Meituan use orange, it may be a differentiation strategy.
