Can You Imagine If You don’t Involve Users in Design Process in Singapore?
UCD(user-centred design) has been a popular and deeply rooted in the heart design thinking. In our daily design work, we execute it thoroughly. Involving user is the essence.
Can you imagine if you don’t involve users in the design process? Now let’s assume that if you have a good idea, then you want to realize it, you just work on your own, what will happen?
1.The needs are not user needs
The need maybe just comes from your imagination. You just feel it interesting and meaningful. No one agrees with you. No one wants your product. It is meaningless to them. The product is not designed for them, it is just for your personal interest.
2.The design is not business design
Business design means the product will be exposed to the market, sold to customers thus make the profit. If you don’t involve users in the design process, you wouldn’t know their requirements and preference. Then the product would not satisfy users, not to mention clients and stakeholders.
3.You may Get Stuck in Idea
It is like designing a car in your own black room, you have no communication with the outside. You only rely on yourself, no reference or guidance to inspire you. In the closed space, it is difficult or even impossible for you to have the passion for your idea, you will feel exhausted and get stuck in the idea. Probably, you want to give up, unfortunately, one day.
4.Expert, Stakeholders or Psychology are not enough
You are a designer, can be called the expert in this field. Stakeholders are familiar with the market and business strategy. Theory methods like psychology can give you countless tips. While they are far from enough. The reason is they do not end user who will use your product directly. Their mind thinking may be different from users. What’s more, many theories is knowledge of the book, some solutions need to be adjusted in the fact.
5.Data is unreasonable
If you don’t do the survey on users, where do your data come from? Your data will be questioned by other people. It is difficult for them to convince your data. A reliable data needs to be collected from a massive investigation of target users. And a deep analysis will be done to define the valuable information. The data can answer what kind of the target users, what is their most preferred colour, which features they like most, etc. Only by going close to users, the data can be reliable and confident.
In Conclusion
By assuming you don’t involve users in your design process, I list several bad consequences. The user is the person who produces the need, who will use the product. We should involve users throughout the design process.
If you want more user experience design, you can visit user, I believe will bring you more surprises.
